ES PQS: Section 205 (Earth's Layers (Space to the Core))

NGSS HS-ESS2-3 Unit Objective: I will be able to develop a one-dimensional and a three-dimensional model, based on evidence, of Earth’s interior to describe the cycling of matter by thermal convection.

  1. Build or develop a model of the Earth's interior that illustrates the composition, state of matter, density, and the relationships between layers.  The model and its labels, descriptions, or presentation must include references to the evidence scientists have found to indicate these layers exist as modeled.

  2. Design and demonstrate a three-dimensional model of the Earth's interior focused on at least one of the following mechanisms: heat transfer, convection, and/or plate tectonics.  Presentation of the model must include references to relationships between layers and how the demonstration represents the realities of the Earth's layers based on known scientific evidence.
